It means maintaining at least three copies of data, on two types of media, with one copy offsite, one copy offline or immutable, and zero unverified backup or recovery errors.
Immutable copies cannot be altered or deleted during the defined retention period, reducing the chance that compromised credentials or malicious processes can destroy recovery data.
Backup preserves recoverable copies of data. Disaster recovery restores complete applications or services, including compute, network, dependencies, sequencing, access and operating procedures at another environment.
RPO defines how much data loss is acceptable, while RTO defines how quickly service must return. Both should be set through business-impact analysis, application dependencies and practical recovery cost.
Yes. Platform availability does not always protect against deletion, corruption, malicious actions, retention gaps, account compromise or application-level recovery needs. Independent protection may still be required.
